March 16 – 22, 2025 marks Canadian Agricultural Safety Week (CASW) – an annual campaign held every third week of March.

Canadian Agricultural Safety week

EquiMania!, Equine Guelph’s youth program, is proud to support the #FarmSafetyEveryday campaign with a variety of free online games and resources designed to keep youth safe on horse farms. Additionally, Equine Guelph is offering a free online course for youth on TheHorsePortal.ca until the end of March.

Kids can become “danger detectives” with an online scavenger hunt at EquiMania.ca, identifying hazards on the horse farm. These are just a few of the interactive games available for young horse enthusiasts, who can earn a Safety Pledge Certificate.

EquiMania! Online makes learning about safety fun through a series of interactive activities. By adopting the Stop Think Act initiatives (developed in partnership with WSPS and ESSO), serious accidents can be prevented by taking the time to consider potential dangers and prepare for them. Youth can learn safety practices from illustrations that show smart protective gear choices for riding, how to stay safe around farm equipment, and proper horse handling techniques. Understanding horse behavior, such as how they see and hear, helps prevent injuries by anticipating their reactions to stimuli.

For those eager to learn more about horses, how they communicate and how to stay safe around them, TheHorsePortal.ca offers an on-demand online course, Horse Behaviour & Safety, recommended for teens. This course is free until March 31, 2025, thanks to the generous support of EquiMania’s sponsors.

Equine Guelph extends its gratitude to its safety supporters. This free youth initiative is made possible by ESSO, Kubota Canada, Ontario Equestrian, and System Equine.
