About Equine Guelph Programs
Equine Guelph
Nestled in the heart of horse country in the province of Ontario, Equine Guelph is a Centre at the University of Guelph which is also home to the world-renowned Ontario Veterinary College – the oldest veterinary college in North America.
Since its inception in 2003, Equine Guelph has come to take the lead in equine education and research in Canada. Equine Guelph is the bridge between the equine sector and the University of Guelph. It is a unique partnership dedicated to the health and welfare of horses, supported and overseen by equine industry groups.
The mandate of Equine Guelph is threefold: 1. to provide training and education programs, 2. to facilitate scientific research and 3. to promote equine health and well-being through extension communications to the industry – ranging from the backyard pony to the performance horse.
Educating Horse People
Equine Guelph is here to help horse people – and their horses – throughout their life’s journey together. Equine Guelph’s online education program was the first of its kind in the world. Developed specifically for horse owners over a decade ago, Equine Guelph’s award-winning programs have touched thousands of people – and horses – around the globe.
Our online programs source the latest science-based information available – participants always come away thinking differently – with lots of new practical ideas to implement with their horses and in their barns. And, the best part is that you can stay home with your horses as you are learning!
We have online training and education opportunities for everyone regardless of age or stage in life – a true pathway for lifelong learning.
Funding Industry Research
Equine Guelph is the epicentre in Ontario, Canada where academia, industry and government meet – a place where all stakeholders sit around one table and decide which research will help horses the most. Research projects, led by top University of Guelph/Ontario Veterinary College researchers, are opening doors to discoveries that will help horses in the areas of disease and injury prevention, diagnosis and treatment of life-altering diseases and injuries.
These important research findings are then communicated by Equine Guelph to the global scientific communities and equine industry through its communications and education programs.
Promoting Health & Performance
As the equine extension arm for the University of Guelph and Ontario Veterinary College, Equine Guelph is positioned to tap into the latest in healthcare information and expertise from a leading equine scientific community.
Through our various communications programs, such as our monthly E-News and quarterly HEALTHflash as well as articles released to equine media, Equine Guelph is committed to sharing the latest in healthcare information to horse caregivers. Equine Guelph has also developed a range of interactive healthcare tools and info sheets that help horse owners address healthcare issues through practical assessments of their own situations.
