Gut Health Day 2
Today we will introduce some basics about the equine GIT, its anatomy, and function. Did you know that the equine GIT is a total of around 100ft long and can hold between 150-180L of content? No wonder it’s such a BIG DEAL to the health of the horse.
We’re also going to be talking about the big C…. That’s right, we’re going to talk about colic. What exactly IS it? Are there different kinds of colic? Is all colic created equal? These are some of the questions we’re going to get into today.
Also, you’ll be asked to checkout Equine Guelph’s “Colic Risk Rater” for the first time! Please take the time (it’s quick!) to use the tool and rate your horse’s risk of colic. If you don’t have a horse don’t worry, select based on what you would expect their management to be IF you had a horse! Comment in the discussion area regarding what your colic risk is. Are you surprised? Why or why not?
