Welcome to Day 9!

Now that we have talked about general management of the horse, let’s move on and learn more about best practices for Reproductive Management.  Many people chose not to breed a horse, and that is okay, as it requires a very different level for your knowledge and your best practices.  If we chose to breed, we must be very strategic in planning that pathway and take the time to learn about this specialized area of horse management.  Our industry here in Canada, and elsewhere, has a problem with hundreds of unwanted horses and that comes with a long list of welfare issues.  So, we will need to think carefully about why we are breeding and the future of that foal, along with checking that we have appropriate facilities for the foaling mare.  If you have had a foal in your barn, we invite you to share your learning moments with our learning community in the Discussions.
