On-Demand: Careers in the Horse World – Youth Course (ages 13-17)
This course may be of interest for:
- Young horse enthusiasts (aged 13-17) who love horses and are interested in a career in the horse industry
- Young horse enthusiasts who are taking on more responsibilities for horse care, or are currently taking riding lessons and want to stay connected in the horse world
Course Goals:
- Outline a pathway to a career in the horse industry
- Learn the basic horse care positions in the industry which can provide entry-level or long-term employment
- Understand the progression of careers as one advances in a job/jobs
- Explore both “hands-on with horses” career options, as well as those careers which are not “hands-on”, yet are an important part of the industry

- Basic Horse Care – Grooms and More
- Coaching and Training
- Careers in the Goods and Services Sectors
- Sales Rep, Research Assistant, and Program Coordinator
- Accountant, Realtor and Insurance Broker
- Organizations and Associations in the Horse Industry
- Photographer, Journalist, Artist and Announcer
- Horse Show and Event Planner
- Horse Health Care Careers
Time Commitment:
- 10-20 hours total time commitment to complete the course
- On-demand format – complete at your own pace!
- No set times to be online
- Course is entirely online, so travel to the University of Guelph is NOT required
